ART STATEMENT

In my work, I excavate subjugated knowledge. I am referring to buried histories that define the present and future to come. From my position, a person traversing multiple national boundaries, I attempt to deconstruct social norms and utopian narratives embedded within global capitalism and governments. In my work, I use iconic moments in art history and common artifacts as a way of understanding the aspects of everyday life that are rendered invisible by structures of power. My art is a vehicle for observing the relationships between these fragments of our material environment and their underlying meanings often decoded but not comprehended. As a poetic gesture, I recompose these pieces and parts to dramatize, through humor and metaphor, a mashed and modified imaginary with the intention to reveal meanings that may otherwise remain hidden from view.
